Up around the top of the chairlift, the beauty of the Martial Glacier unfolds. Close by, tourists navigate the snowy trails on skis, snowboards or dog sleds. The road to the city winds through the forest, and along one of its curves rises the imposing structure of Las Hayas Resort Hotel. At night, they say, it looks like a beacon, like a lighthouse at the end of the world.
The fine, gabled building is crowned with a tower whose conical roof is reminiscent of a medieval castle. Inside, the harmonious design invites visitors to sit in the lobby’s armchairs and gaze at the bay through the large windows. The beeches of the forest, old and stark, are outlined above the horizon of the channel and the white mountain peaks.

In the spacious guest rooms, the wallpaper and the matching fabric wall coverings define a style that is continued in the curtains and bedspreads. Matching carpets decorate the living rooms, which are furnished with a loveseat, a coffee table and a Queen Anne chair.

A distinguished dining option is Le Martial, whose international and regional cuisine includes dishes such as pheasant terrine, salmon mousse, wild king crab and black hake. The view from here encompasses the twinkling lights of the city and the deep blue of the water. 
Nearby, trails for hiking and a Scottish-style nine-hole golf course provide guests with options for a day outdoors. Spending time outside is the best way to experience these southern lands where, with the arrival of summer, the green becomes lighter and wildflowers bloom in the grass.
