Primo Capraro arrived in this natural paradise of Villa La Angostura in 1917. A lake sailor, this Italian pioneer found the perfect place to make the dream of his own cabin a reality, in a privileged corner surrounded by mountains. His friends and those who love fishing used to stay at these lodgings, which since the 1940’s have become an icon of Patagonia.
Built with blocks of volcanic sand, granite and cypress wood, the hotel honors his memory with many details in its various rooms. A scale model of the steamship El Cóndor, photographs of the first tourists, original china and old fishing rods and reels are some of the memorabilia that decorate its comfortable spaces.
From the hotel’s private dock, boat excursions cruise the north side of the lake up to the National Park. On the way back, some guests choose to recharge their energies in the exclusive Hamman & Herbal Spa; others prefer to rest in the library’s armchairs, drink a pisco sour or just take in the landscape.
A unique and unforgettable experience is Té Correntoso (Correntoso tea). The quest for the most aromatic infusion starts with the advice of a tea sommelier. Then, the conversation is enlivened by the exquisite pastries and cakes in a feast that has gained a well-deserved fame all over the lake area.
At dinnertime, El Gourmet restaurant offers regional and Mediterranean cuisine. A perfect time to plan a fishing expedition at dawn. An experienced sportsman talks to his son who is there with him for the first time. Together, they will start off a new day and will begin to write the memories of their visit to Patagonia. |
