As night approaches in Ushuaia, the guests, wrapped up warm, enjoy the last minutes of daylight on the terraced deck facing the Beagle Channel. Over hot chocolate, they recall the day's activities: cross-country skiing, dog sledding and snowshoeing. Inside the Hotel Los Cauquenes Resort & Spa, the lights begin to come on and the warmth of the hearth invites them to continue their conversation next to the fire.

With the peaks of the mountain range as a backdrop, this cozy refuge rises just a few yards from the seashore. The climate, the geography and the architecture of the region determined the materials used in its construction. The exterior of lenga wood and stone form a barrier to the cold. The interior is warmed by wood floors and colorful velvet and corduroy fabrics. Works of art, leather handicrafts and rugs from the north, center and south of Argentina are the details that distinguish the décor of the guest rooms and other spaces. The lobby and the bar, with their large windows, constitute one of the gathering places of the hotel. Both in winter and in summer, it is the preferred place to read, settled in one of the comfortable armchairs. You can choose to have a drink under the skylighted roof while enjoying a good vista of the bay. For full body relaxation, the ideal place is the spa, where you can take in one of the best views from the hydromassage tub.

The beach entices you to walk in the sunshine and observe the local wildlife. From the shore, you can watch birds such as oystercatchers, huge albatrosses, diving petrels and, of course, a picturesque variety of cauquenes (Andean geese). Mussels, including cholgas, and snails are plentiful among the rocks. You can also spot seals and even penguins. Charles Darwin saw a picture of calm retreat in this landscape. He observed the crystalline water, the tree branches overhanging the rocky beach, the wooded valley, the port and the ships at anchor. Such a landscape convinced the naturalist that this place was one of a kind.
